A couple of years ago Ford initiated an advertisement campaign that was based on the premise of out of the box moves. It was designed to let the buying public know that the company was not afraid to step out of the box. It was the precursor to vehicles like the F-150 Raptor, the Flex and the Fusion Hybrid. Though marketing of this type is no longer being done, Ford is still going against the norm. The Ford C-Max Hybrid is the latest “bold move”. It is not a seven passenger gas only van but it is a 5 passenger, version that is solely hybrid.
The C-Max Energi and the C-Max Hybrid use a four cylinder two point zero liter engine along with a motor that is electric. This pairing in addition to a battery pack (lithium-ion), produces 141 hp in the basic electric/gas 2013 Ford C-Max Hybrid. The first plug in hybrid for Ford is the C-Max Energi. Based on the projections that the company has to produce electric vehicles this version won’t be the last.
The C-Max has a design and chassis that is similar to the Ford Focus; it will be the major competitor for the Toyota Prius V, another crossover vehicle that seats 5 passengers. In the European market the C-Max comes with a variety of features including hill start assist, blind spot monitoring, parallel parking assist and warning for lane departure.
The Ford C-Max Hybrid is predicted to be able to produce fuel economy that will be an improvement on the forty one mpg rating that the Ford Fusion Hybrid currently has. It will be able to go at approximately fifty miles per hour on electricity alone. The C-Max Energi will, on the other is projected to be able to do more than five hundred miles between the battery pack (lithium-ion) and its gasoline engine. The battery can easily be recharged overnight with the use of a 120V outlet.
